The Truman Reservoir (also known as Truman Lake) is located in the state of Missouri, United States. It is the largest man-made lake in Missouri and the dam that created and manages the lake's water level. It is located between Clinton and Warsaw, on the Osage River and extends south to Osceola.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has the responsibility for managing 259 square miles of land and water at Truman Lake.
At the top of the flood control pool (739.6) the reservoir grows to over 200,000 acres. The reservoir is located in portions of four Missouri counties: Benton, Henry, St. Clair, and Hickory.
The Harry S. Truman Regional Visitor Center sits atop Kaysinger Bluff and provides a spectacular view of the dam and reservoir.Waterfowl, bald eagles, and turkey vultures can routinely be observed from the observation deck.
Truman Lake is nationally known for its excellent crappie and largemouth bass fishing. The 55,600 acre reservoir is fed by four major rivers and several smaller streams, creating a broad degree of diversity within the reservoir. Over 8,800 acres of timber were left standing in the lake to improve aquatic habitat. In addition to crappie and largemouth bass, the lake supports good populations of both blue and flathead catfish. Truman Lake has been popular with tournament fishermen for many years.
