    The state record Largemouth taken by pole and line is 13lbs. and 14oz.. Caught at Bull Shoals Lake by Marvin Russell Bushong of Gainesville ,Mo on April 21 , 1961. 
   The record for trotline is 8lbs. and 2oz. caught by Nathan Dietker of Columbia , Mo. Taken from Country Boy Estates Lake.

Largemouth Bass

   The largemouth bass is a member of the sunfish family. As adults they average in size from 10-24 inches in length and can wiegh up to 15 pounds , with a lifespan of 10-15 years.
   These fish inhabit lowland lakes , manmade reservoirs , rivers and streams throughout the state. They prefer moderatly clear water with little or no current.
   Largemouth are carnivorous feeding on
fish , crayfish , large insects , and occasionally frogs , mice and snakes. They are most active early morniing and late evening. They are the most popular fish among Missouri anglers providing explosive strikes and jumps that make any day on the water exciting.
 

Identifying Characteristics:

  • Large, elongated fish with a very large mouth
  • Upper jaw reaches far beyond the rear margin of the eye, except in small young.
  • Upper parts are greenish; the lower sides and belly are white without dark spots or with spots that are irregularly arranged. 
  • Midside has a broad, dark continuous stripe.
